Don't Throw it Away -- Create Something Amazing!
That is the name of this wonderful new book that I just bought for Holland. It is a book that has tons of ideas on how to turn trash into treasure - art treasure! Holland loves to hoard things, and she loves to make art so this is a perfect idea book for her. My only real concern is that we may never throw anything away ever again. Here is a picture of the book cover, and what will follows will be Holland's first couple of projects....

Daddy and Boden
Holland has been learning about portraiture at school this last week, mainly self portraits, but she is experimenting with all types. This is a drawing of her daddy walking the dog. It's pretty incredible to see the details - she gave Jonathan nostrils, teeth, his green eyes, and even a striped shirt!

The Castle that Holland Built
I found this cardboardy- type-packaging stuff in one of my Christmas gifts, and I immediately thought about Holland and how much fun she could have creating something with it. One of my hopes for her new art studio is that we are constantly filling it with stuff that we can recycle into wonderful pieces of art. She is so incredibly creative that she often sees "gems" in what I would see as trash. She will frequently see shapes and designs in things and comment about them. This was the perfect shape and design for her to create none other than a castle, and she used the other piece as a garden, and she even used a third piece as a lake or a river (not photographed). When she called me down to the studio to look at it for the first time, she had even gone as far as to create a clay turtle that was in the water piece. I missed getting a picture of it though, and it has long ago been turned into some other creative idea!
LOVE her ideas! So very cool!
